Frisian Colorists & Restorers

Our studio was founded in 2008 under the name of Frisian Book & Paper Restorers Group by Frederik Muller, an official antiquarian with an impressive service record. Due to his international network end profound expertise he has been of great importance for the studio.In January 2015 the enterprise was handed over to its employees and the name has been changed into Frisian Colorists and Restorers. Muller keeps on being an advisor of the new studio. The team basically has remained the same and all of the members have got more than fifteen years of experience.

Restauration

This includes the washing, adding fibres and doubling paper and the repairing of tears. We restore old books and prints mainly from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth century. We use reversible materials. It is also possible for us to rewrite or repaint parts of original manuscripts or prints when they have been damaged.

Bookbinding

For us this means the binding or rebinding of books, or the restoration of the book block. We restore old techniques of bookbinding and we restore or renew book blocks and book backs using leather, parchment or other materials.

Coloring

We restore old coloring or apply new coloring for prints books, wall maps and atlases. The process starts with solid research in to the colour scheme and other important characteristics from the time period concerned. We apply different painting techniques.
